The Cycling New Zealand AGM and Conference weekend is on May 19th-20th.
The CNZ Road and Track Committee have shared the CNZR&T Centres Presentation 2018 ahead of discussion at the Conference. Note, the potential for Cycling Otago (Centre & Club) to be amalgamated into a “Southern South Island” Centre run out of Invercargill.
There are no details yet about how a potential change would affect the day to day operations, strategic aims, or autonomy of Cycling Otago – and whether it would ultimately advantage or disadvantage our members – we hope to gain more information soon.
Several thoughts immediately come to mind:
- The driver seems to be a narrow focus on High Performance outcomes versus growing the sport at the grass roots across all age groups and interests – which is what our Centre and Club seeks to do while also supporting riders’ progression within the sport.
- The potential impact on funding availability at the Centre level once organisations start spanning the geographical boundaries of the different community funders.
